So I’m sure some of you are starting to feel like you know me, how I love decor, goal setting, I’m a home body and I’m a do-er. I literately cant stand still, and if I want to do something or make something, I just go and do it. I dont wait, I’m inspired immediately and get to work. I am working on one skill though lately, and that is patience.
Me, being Patient?
Patience is essential especially when you purchase a home. Believe me I had a list to the floor of ideas and projects before we even stepped into the house. But, when we got those keys and I already had the paint cans in my trunk, I knew I needed to grow as an interior designer sort of speak before I started making big changes. I mean painting isn’t big by any means, so as far as some cosmetic changes, I went right ahead and went with my gut on them, and everything turned out perfect. However as far as adding in another bathroom, laundry room, mud room, built ins, other fireplaces etc, I had to slow my row. I knew I had to research and draw and draw again different ideas and scenarios. I decided to hang my hammer up for a minute and just live in the house. See what works what needs improving and what we can do without. Essentially where our money was going to go upfront.
Patience was a blessing in disguise…
Now almost a year later, we are underway some big renovations within the home, and I am BURSTING at the seams to show you all. We have some not so ‘fun’ improvements to make to the house that you cant necessarily see, but will make the home more efficient. So there’s exciting things and then there’s just expensive things we need to do. One thing I’m the most proud on is my element of design within this Reno. I have almost surprised myself at how this vision has come to life (obviously with the help of my father, my one day brother(s) in law and my one day father in law!) right before my eyes. So if there is one piece of advice I can give to new home owners that are ready to demo their home, be patient. Try and live in your home and figure out your flow of living before making big changes. I know it was a tough pill for me to swallow, but it really has made a huge difference in my choices within our home! But a year is almost up, and I’m eager to do more. So pass the sludge hammer, as Chip Gaines would word it.. it’s Demo Day!!!!
Talk soon! Sam xx
