YOU GUYS!! The day is here! Our new windows are ready! Goodness I thought this day would never come. This is our first big investment back into The Morganston House and it is probably the best investment we could make! Now, I’m no complainer with living in a cooler house. It’s what I’m used to being raised and born into a century home at my Parent’s Farm. And I’m a firm believer it keeps you healthier! But when I say a cool home, I mean like a temperature of maybe 68. Here at The Morganston House, we had to keep everything at a cool 58 to keep the pipes from freezing, yet not high enough to make the furnace run all day. Because friends, since we moved in during the winter months, we were basically throwing money out the window.. literally. Our windows are the original windows… yes you heard that correctly. Our home was built in 1908, and even though I can see a few were maybe replaced with other older windows, and our back kitchen edition was built in the early 50s so they are a bit newer. But let’s just say they were no where near ‘energy sufficent’. It was a coooold 2 winters. BUT when we were finally able to start saving for the windows we knew we had to start knocking on some doors and getting some quotes to really see what we were working with. We had talked to a couple businesses before FCI, but if I knew then what I know now.. I would of gone straight to them! Heres one last look at the old windows….

FCI is a Window Company based in Peterborough, Ontario that has been serving its community for 26 years. They make their windows in house and are truly Canadian, made especially for this crazy Canadian climate we live in! Their friendly and VERY intelligent staff explained everything so clearly to me as I really had no experience with Windows and what we needed specifically. With their windows being made there in house, I was able to full customize and request our windows to suite and compliment the farmhouse style. It was the perfect match! Their pricing was the most competitive, and we were offered discounts for installing our windows in the Winter. And not to mention the 18 Windows we ordered with them, entitled us to a bit of a discount too! So it was a win win for everyone!!

Look at all of the old windows!! Time to see the new ones!!

Now when I was designing our windows, I knew I wanted a fresh look for the farmhouse, but still wanted to honour the original style. Ill never forget the first time I took of the storms on the lower floor windows, how much brighter they made the whole main level. So I knew I didn’t want to do any crazy designs, I wanted aaaaall the light. So thats when I came to terms with the ‘2 over 2’ design. Simple, yet gave me farmhouse vibes. And it brought the cost of the windows down even more!! After I did some more inspirational research, I knew that was going to be my design for sure. It was farmhouse, classic and timeless. The perfect combination!

I hope you all love what I designed for our new windows. I’m so smitten with our new windows, and I couldn’t be happier with the service and quality of FCI Windows and their whole team. From their reception, to the owner acknowledging our project to the fantastic crew that showed up (that very snowy stormy day!!) to do the installs. We are more then happy with the project!! Would you believe me if I said they did 14 windows in one day!! Yes. You heard me.. crazy right!! They saved our 3 ‘mega windows’ for day 2, as we knew they were going to be quite the projects themselves. They were truly the biggest reveal of them all, and I’m so excited to share them!!

Now this big guy, we wanted to be the show stopper. (It almost stopped us from buying this place.. it was basically like holding up a sheet of paper as a window, thats how thin it was!) But boy was it pretty. We removed the concave part of the window, and changed up the style of the window. We knew we wanted apart of the window to open to enjoy in the summer months, so I designed two 2 over 2 windows to sandwich a large picture window so we could really enjoy the view! I’m so thrilled with our design, it really complimented the rest of the windows, but the picture window in the middle (with no panes) really brightened up the space and allowed us to enjoy our incredible view. I also have a vision for this window to have a window seat, so stay tuned for that project happening soon! Now just to paint you guys a picture, when FCI started taking apart this big window in place for the new one, they realized the window did not have a proper supporting header (what is supporting our loft above this space). They went above and beyond to manage to create a whole new header for the window ensuring our loft and window were going to be secure and safe for years to come. We are so thankful they caught this issue and addressed it right away!

Our other kitchen window we decided to keep the same size as the original, and made the same 2 over 2 design as the rest. I was going back and forth as to what to do with this window as I always picture having our kitchen sink under a window. But, this window is so unique and one of a kind, that I decided to honour its uniqueness and keep it the same size! I’m just so exited that I can now open it!

Our guest bedroom window was another project within a project. I can’t recall if I ever shared this with you all, but these original windows almost resembled doors. And these windows step out onto the top of our new porch. So we decided to carry on the window/door feel and create this beauty with a screen!! You never know.. maybe an upper deck is in the future!! So basically this is going to become my new favourite place to hang out in the summer!! How beautiful is this going to be!! You can see the before photo below ontop of the porch… to the new install!!

So from finding our dream company to tackle our Window Project to designing the perfect pieces to compliment our century home… We are just over the moon with everything from start to finish! Not to mention that FCI has a 10 year to lifetime warranty on its glass and vinyl. So I know we are covered for a very long time to ensure these windows meet our standards!

So to wrap up this long summary of our Window Replacing experience. We will hands down refer FCI to all of our family and friends & to you all for your next window or door needs. Their products, services and craftsmanship were more then impressive. And we are so excited to be lifelong customers of theres! Do you have a window or door that needs replacing friend?
