I think my love for Copper came naturally to me as I started becoming more and more passionate about interior decorating. My mom had a collection of Copper she displayed around the house while I was growing up, so it always seemed like a natural decor accent to me. Now that I’ve started decorating my own home with Copper – more specifically my Kitchen, I keep learning more and more about this interesting metal and just how versatile it really is. So today I want to inspire you to think a little outside the box when it comes to adding metal accents in your home. Of course I’ll always say a good mix of crisp whites, light greys and wood tones will always make a space cozy and on trend, but I think Copper really brings you through season to season easily. When I think of Copper I can think of Christmas, Fall and Summer all while keeping its presence in my kitchen. So lets dive a little deeper into the characteristics of the metal and where I think it is displayed best!

If I was to sum Copper up in one word it would be timeless. Think about it – how long has Copper been around? Hundreds of years its been in use because of its durability, how it conducts heat well and how its easy to shape into any tool. Lately though, I bet you haven’t been able to walk into any home decor shop without seeing a pair of the famous Moscow Mule glasses in all their Copper glory. I think that has really put the spotlight back on Copper during this new trend season and I couldn’t love it more. So naturally of course I have a pair myself displayed in my kitchen along with some other accent pieces that ill show that really bring just the right amount of Copper into the space. I’m now on a Copper spending freeze if you can believe it – because I know I have just the right amount to contrast against the wood grain of my cabinets and the white of my backsplash. Here are a list of accents that you can find in Copper that will up your Kitchen Copper game:

  • Copper Bowls & Pans hanging rack – This DIY rack is made out of an old window and some hooks from the hardware store. An easy project to do to add more decor to your kitchen space that draws the eye up and down the space to get the full effect.
  • Copper Canisters – Cookies, Utensils, Coffee, Tea etc the list goes on! Adding Copper canisters to your countertop against the wall or in your coffee nook can really brighten up the space and give it a focal point.
  • Copper Kettle or Appliances – I fell in love with my Copper kettle as soon as I saw it on the shelf at Homesense! Another Copper appliance that is a bigger purchase but I think is another timeless piece is a Copper Kitchen Aid Mixer. I absolutely love my white one, but man wouldn’t a Copper one look sharp as its own stand along accent piece on a counter top? Someone get it so I can live through you!!!
  • Small Copper Accents – like salt and pepper shakers, small pedestals, small vases etc that look great in a display space where you can mix other natural elements in like wood or glass. In my opinion, Copper stands out the best against natural elements such as: wood, glass, paper (book ends), greenery or foliage. Use that kind of as your base when styling copper on a shelf or counter etc. I try not to have too much copper next to each other, but with the right mix of the natural elements you can have lots of Copper in your space. Just like how this vignette is broke up with the mason jar vase and the bright hydrangea clipping and my wood cutting board.

Heres another way I styled my kitchen for Spring with those beautiful tulips. You can see how I styled my copper here to go against a natural element like a Galvanized steel that really made it pop. In the corner of my countertop space I love my utensil container and my cookie container. Just the right amount of copper mixed in with the metal of the Kitchen Aid Mixer, Glass pasta jar, wooden spoons and antique weigh scale. The perfect balance!

Now where can you find Copper accent pieces and how do you know which ones are authentic? Well my friend, the majority of the Copper I have collected is either from an Antique store, or a modern home decor shop. One thing I will point out with Copper pieces especially the new age styles, some have more of a rose gold finish then a true Copper finish. So keep an eye out for that when you are shopping. I challenge you to look in antique stores for your Copper accents as that is where I have been most successful. That way I know im getting an authentic piece, I may have to pay a little more for it, but you’ll have that piece for life and be able to pass it along to your daughter like my Mom did to me. Another tip for Copper shopping, head to your local Value Village or Habitat for Humanity etc and take a quick peek at those shelves for some deals. Those Copper canisters I styled on my upper shelf above I got for $8 at Value Village. So there is pieces out there, you just have to look for them!

As far as caring & cleaning for my Copper, I simply use a warm wet  cloth with your favourite natural cleaning product for every day smudges and wear and tear. For a deeper cleaning, a love using lemon water and a cloth with a little more texture to it to scrub any blemishes away. The more natural product you can use on your Copper the better. Try to stay away from harsh chemicals!

Well there you have it friends! Simply ways to introduce Copper into your living space. Here last Christmas I carried on the Kitchen Copper theme to trickle into my living room Christmas setting with a Copper candle, the cutest Copper Tree Stocking holders and a Copper basket for our kindling. I hope this inspires you to get out and start training your eye to look for that Copper! Thanks for stopping by the blog today friend! Means the world… can’t wait to chat again next week!!
