So I knew that purchasing our first home was going to be this brand new experience we literally had zero experience with. It’s kind of terrifying not to make it sound scary. How are we going to pay for this? And this? And this this this!? It gets overwhelming. Pooling two finances together too is scary. Yes Brandon and I were very committed to each other, but we weren’t married yet. There definitely is a lot to think about. A lot to be smart about. And I quickly made an easy DIY to help keep us accountable and organized with all things house, payments, expenses, receipts you name it. Because let me tell you.. you will one day need the invoice for that one project 7 years ago. You will! So trust me, getting organized right out of the gate is a must!

Papers everrrrywhere? Here’s your solution!

We all know and love IKEA am I right? One thing I always loved about them was their stationary and office supplies. I dont know about you guys, but at a young age I would look through the IKEA catalog and dream about the products in there more then the SEARS Wishbook (My Canadians will understand;)). One of my favourite products is there foldable desktop organizers that came in 4 packs for a couple bucks. And they come in a nice white – every farmhouse gals dream right. So after dreaming up of ways to stay organized, I purchased about 24 of these file folders, assembled them, grabbed my calligraphy pen and put a brush script label on each one identifying categories such as ‘Vehicles’, ‘House Renovations’, ‘Insurance – Home & Other’ the list goes on. I made myself a nice shelf display in my office, and up they went. A ‘catch all’ for all things house. You may ask well Sam I cant pick up a calligraphy pen and do that! I have you covered friend. Find your favourite ‘font generator’ website. Mine is www.freefonts.com. Find your favourite brush calligraphy fonts from the search bar, and use the font display model to type in your words and it will generate them in that font. Screen shot the words, copy & paste into a document and hit print! Few cut outs and some glue stick action and you’ll have pretty labels yourself 🙂 You could really have fun with it!

Monthly clean up to keep extra organized!

Now you guessed it – these can get full and fast! What I plan to do at the end of March (we moved in in April) is to gather a small binder, hole puncher and dividers and place all documents and receipts into separate sections in a binder labeled 2017-2018 to store away. That way the folders are now empty and ready to easily tuck in documents, invoices and receipts so we are organized without the mess! This also helps with tax time!

I’d love to see your organization stations in action! Tag me in your social media to show off your DIY project. I hope this organization hack helps you and your hubby stay organized like us!
