Okay so remember that post where I talk about Patience and how important it is to wait before you do some major Reno’s in your home? Well when were talking about Kitchens… its almost impossible to a) not want to rip everything apart and b) impossible to afford your dream kitchen! The struggle is real friend! However I did some research and wanted to find a quick fix to bring my kitchen towards that farmhouse look I had in my mind. So no fear, I’m here to help you with a quick and cheap DIY project for the tile situation in your kitchen!

So my first glance at our kitchen I knew I was going to paint those cupboards white and bring them back to life!!! Could hardly wait. New hardware, sand them down. Ahhh can ya just picture it. Well turns out Brandon didn’t necessarily agree on that idea. News flash Sam… this isn’t just your home 🙂 So we had to come to a little compromise. I wanted white in there somewhere, and my next idea was to take the tile backsplash off and make my own subway tile backsplash. But, we really didnt plan to touch the kitchen at all, therefore we didnt really budget anything for it. But that didnt get in my way of trying to think up new ways to do this quick fix on a quick couple bucks. So of course.. my background of painting everything possible… I thought heck there has to be a tile paint right? Right!!! Thank you Home Hardware. They helped me find a paint of a white primer that would take to tile in a semi gloss finish! And with some further research.. I wanted to be able to wipe the tiles down every so often. You know.. from the pasta night turned into pasta everywhere night.. including the counters and backsplash. So I bought a water based varathane to go over the painted tile so I could easily wipe off any marks along the way!

Now I’m still convinced that I can persuade Brandon to let me paint the cupboards white.. but friends, the ‘happy wife’ saying is true when it comes to the hubbies too 😉 even though we aren’t married yet.. compromise is key friends! Now happy painting.. let me know if you have any other tips when painting tile!

Talk soon, Sam xx
