Happy almost Christmas time my friend!! If youre anything like me your already decorated for Christmas, the tree is trimmed & the mistletoe is up!! But when you feel like youre ‘done’ your decorating.. is it normal to look for other things to decorate?? I’m a sucker for decorating my front porch – and my side porch is no different! I was helping Brandon move wood the other day in our Barn and stumbled across my tomato vine cage from my spring crops. I couldn’t help but envision a DIY using this tomato cage.. it resembled a tree.. and boom! I had this idea to make my own ‘out door Christmas tree!’ using this cage! Now I know this little hack has been done on Pinterest before.. but I wanted to give it a new spin! Instead of using faux greenery or other Christmas decor, I decided to use some real greenery snips and boy was it fun to do! And I love the finish product. So here is a quick little tutorial on how to make your own DIY Outdoor Christmas tree!

Materials

-Tomato Cage at your preferred height

-Fresh cut greenery. I used spruce and cedar!

-Wreath wire and garden clips/snips

Process

  1. Wire the bottom of your cage to mimic the top of the Christmas tree- do lots and lots of wraps to ensure it doesn’t come undone by twisting through the cages etc to make it really sturdy!!
  2. Start at the bottom of your tomato cage and start wiring greenery that matches the length from your first wire cage to the ground. I tried to use the biggest ‘surface area’ covering clippings to you can get a good base going
  3. Start your second layer by overlapping your greenery to give it the flock look and ‘levels’ look. Try to keep the levels even so you really mimic a tree. I kind of got away from keeping my different levels level.. if that makes sense??
  4. Continue all the way up your tree making more and more levels. Try to hid your cage as best you can!
  5. I used my cedar for the top point to give it a little different look at the top! Now all I have to do is make sure everything is covered and ‘fluffed’ and then im good to go!
  6. Optional – add some twinkle 🙂

Hope you enjoyed that little DIY my friend!! Tag me on social so I can see your own tomato Christmas tree creations 😉 Until next time my friend keep DIYing!!
